Guideline Editor Overview

With the Smart Trading Cloud Repository, you can create and edit your custom guideline specifications or edit a standard system guideline document to help meet your business or transaction requirements.

A guideline is a hierarchically-structured standard specification with structural and logical rules that is sent between trading partners.

When you open a guideline, the Guideline Editor presents a tree view of the guideline, that allows you to navigate through the parent/child guideline nodes (graphical representations of a guideline structure). Nodes are individual items in a guideline tree that summarize the details of values or other nodes, and may or may not roll up into other nodes or levels. A node can be a parent and a child at the same time depending on its location within the guideline tree. Adding a node allows you to add critical or missing information to complete the guideline document.

The Guideline Editor contains two panes:

  • The right pane displays general details on the selected node.
  • The left pane displays the full structure of the selected guideline in a tree view mode.

The left pane represents guideline nodes differently depending on the standard of the guideline. For example:

To create a new guideline document based on one of the available templates, see Create New Guideline.
